DESCRIPTION
Just south of the Montes de Toledo and only 2 hours south of Spain´s capital of Madrid you can find Cabañeros National Park. The immense park is one of the less visited National Parks of Spain, mostly because it is situated in the wildest and emptiest corner of the Iberian Peninsula. With help of the local ranger we search for burling Red dear, Wild boars, Otters and many other wild animals. Together with Monfragüe National Park, Cabañeros housesthe largest population of Black vultures of Europe; raptors such as Iberian imperial eagle, Black winged kite and Short-toad snake eagle are still pretty common in this region. In de middle in between these two great nature reserves we find the medieval city of Cáceres where we will spend one night and visit this beautiful town with a local tourist guide.
In spring, this trip is perfect to enjoy fields full of flowers and to see the migrating birds of prey preparing for their long journey. In autumn the burling of the Red dear will be the most important attraction, especially Cabañeros is famous for this.
PROGRAM:
DAY 1. ARRIVAL IN MADRID
Transfer from Barajas Airport to Horcajo de los Montes (Cabañeros NP)

DAY 2. VISIT TO CABAÑEROS NATIONAL PARK
Morning: 4 x 4 Wildlife observation excursion within Cabañeros National Park
Afternoon: Geological walk at Boquerón de Estena (7 km, climb/descent: 50 m)
Accommodation: Hotel Cabañeros, Horcajo de los montes
DAY 3. VISIT OT CABAÑEROS NATIONAL PARK
Morning: Walk through Cork oak Mediterranean foresto of La Gargantilla (8 km, climb/descent: 300m )
Afternoon:4 x 4 Wildlife observation excursion within Cabañeros National Park

DAY 4. MONASTERY OF GUADALUPE AND MEDIAVAL CITY OF CÁCERES
Morning: Transfer from Horcajo to Guadalupe with guided visit to the monastery
Afternoon: Guided visit to the historical centre of Cáceres

DAY 5. SURROUNDINGS OF CÁCERES AND NATURAL RESERVE OF LOS BARRUECOS
Morning: Observation of Great bustard un surroundings of Cáceres
