DESCRIPTION

This tour focusedson the observation of the two great carnivores of the Cantabrian Mountains: the Brown Bear and the Iberian Wolf. We will visit some of the best preserved habitats in Spain. The Cantabrian range is an unexplored part of Spain, yet is a wild natural landscape with a rich mixture of rugged terrains and extensive forests. We will visit both Picos de Europa NAtional Park and Somiedo National Park.

With this in mind, we will position ourselves at strategic points, moving around the mountain range’s best spots, always drawing on our local knowledge and experience. Of course our aim is to view these sensitive animals from vantage points where they do not feel disturbed or threatened. Therefore views of bears are usually made from medium or long distances, but are close enough to get outstanding quality views through telescopes and binoculars.

Whilst waiting and scanning for our target species, we will also have the opportunity to watch other interesting mammals, abundant in certain areas of the mountain, such as the Cantabrian Chamois, Mountain Goat, Wild Boar, Red Deer and Roe Deer.

This travel is organized in collaboration with Wild Watching Spain and Fundación Oso Pardo.

OUR VISION

A green planet full of wilderness areas. Increasing awareness of our role within nature while our own children educate their parents. The rural environment as generator of opportunities while interpretative guides are capacitated and committed, inspiring and transmitting sustainability values.

WILDERNESS: The most intact, undisturbed wild natural areas left on our planet, those last truly wild places governed by natural processes that humans do not control and have not developed.   “The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness”,  John Muir.

NATURE CONSERVATION: The protection of natural resources and landscapes, including biodiversity of plant and animal species. Taking in account historical, cultural and spiritual heritage.   “What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another”,  Mahatma Gandhi.

ECOTOURISM: Responsible travel to natural areas that protect the environment and improves the well-being of local people.   “Travel makes one modest. You see what a tiny place you occupy in the world”,  Gustave Flaubert.

OUR PRODUCTS: Primary or secondary education courses, nature youth camps, family experiences, survival trainings, nature expeditions, wildlife observation, profesional guide training, consultancy in nature conservation, sustainable tourism and socio-economic development.

The Spirit of Nature is always our main ingredient! Logo EspirituNature
